Bug in a Book is an Australian/New Zealand Children's Literacy hub. We promote literacy organisations to the greater community by allowing them to contribute to our Bug in a Book website and at the same time our emagazine, newsletters and social networks. We provide resources to parents and teachers to access freely direct from Bug in a Book and via contributors links.
We believe in the importance of literacy to the development of children and hope to help parents and teachers encourage this wonderful skill in our most important citizens, our children. We aim to bring a variety of quality children's literature to our subscribers as well as informative and relevant articles to create a positive resource. We hope to affiliate with other like minded organisations to help create this resource, as well as businesses which are of good quality and whose products are of interest to this market.
Bug in a Book was created by Angela Hall (Managing director) and Danielle Bagshaw (Director of art and design). Both have a background in child care and early learning, where their passion and joy of children's books began. Watching the children gain so much from the stories as they are told and retold over and over, and secretly loving the stories themselves. Angela and Danielle developed the website and began their venture into the world of literacy. Bug in a Book is growing everyday and there is much excitement about where it is headed.
Angela, has had a life-long love for children's literature and education through story telling. With a background in early childhood education this is where her passion for children's literature really began.
She loves the rhythmic, rhymes of Lynley Dodd and the fun and beauty in Mem Fox's stories. Not only are these stories a joy to read, they are incredibly spellbinding to children. During her days as an early childhood teacher she would write simple songs, rhymes and poems to inspire children to learn while having enough fun to not realise they are.
She plans to share her passion through her beautifully written stories, and hopefully inspire other writers to do the same. Ang draws her inspiration everyday from her gorgeous daughter, Chelsea, or 'Little Bug'.
Ang currently resides in the sunny Gold Coast, Queensland, with her husband and daughter. Ang has two adorable fur children, Chevy and Cypress who are also an endless source of amusement and inspiration.
Danielle started out her passion for artwork during primary school. Charging fellow classmates 10 cents a drawing for school projects. It was a great business starter, but it wasn't long before her teachers noted a sudden class-wide artistic improvement in their student's work.
Danielle hopes to finally put her artwork out into the world. Her background in childcare opened her eyes to the wonderful world of illustration, and beautifully drawn children's books. Artists such as Pamela Lofts (Wombat Stew), Bruce Whatley (That Magnetic Dog), and Rod Clement (Edward the Emu), are great influences on her artwork.
Danielle currently resides in Mount Gambier, South Australia, with her adored family. She has four much loved fur children, Tai the Shepherd, Bailey the Golden Retriever, Ginger-Tom Shelby, and Spaz the Russian blue.
