Lynelle Westlake
I am an Author/Illustrator of Children’s Books living in the thriving rural community of Goondiwindi in South West Queensland.
As a former teacher I am passionate about fostering early literacy skills in young children.
Australia’s unique fauna provides abiding inspiration for both my writing and painting.
Since retiring 4 years ago, I have been working in my studio at home as well as giving art & writing workshops in schools.
In 2009 I was privileged to be part of the Ipswich Festival of Children’s Literature. Currently I am finishing the illustrations of my next publication.
I believe reading to children from birth is a key factor in early literacy. Reading should be fun and allow children to become involved in conversations about the text and pictures.
In my books, I seek to entertain young readers while assisting the development of language skills and inspire children to care about Australia’s wildlife and habitats.
Dawn Meredith - Author
As a child, Dawn moved with her family to Norway and experienced an amazing change in lifestyle, culture, language and family dynamics. Dawn is unashamed that she was a bookworm and nerd as a child and the love of books did not diminish with age, it became an obsession!
Dawn has been a Special Education Teacher for 20 years and now works one on one with students with special needs. Her initial area of teacher training was Art, but she later became a Special Education Teacher, specializing in literacy and finds fulfillment in helping children develop a love of books and to express their creativity through writing.
Dawn runs writing workshops for kids in schools and regional libraries. See www.dawnmeredithauthor.blogspot to see what she’s been up to lately.
Julie Murphy
A former zoologist and zookeeper, Julie Murphy most enjoys writing for children about animal-related topics. She figures the more kids know about animals and the environment, the more they will be inspired to help save them. Julie has published fiction and non-fiction, educational, reference and various other bits and pieces. Her 2011 releases include Desert Animal Adaptations (Capstone Press), Ocean Animal Adaptations (Capstone Press), and What’s the Issue? The Great Barrier Reef Under Threat (Macmillan Education Australia). Julie writes the Animal Antics column in Bug News, is a part-time Education Officer at an urban farm, a full-time Mum, and occasionally stops for a breather.
